The scent of cedarwood teleports me straight into the deep woods. I can instantly feel myself escape into that environment, making me feel grounded and more in tune with the earth below my feet. Cedarwood has many uses beyond traveling through the imagination though.
It’s essential oil is well known for use as an insect repellant. You may put about 10 drops of cedarwood essential oil into a glass spray bottle, next filling the bottle with water. Easy! Now you’re all set for your camping trip or ready to enjoy a summer evening by the fire. Don’t forget to shake well before spraying to mix the oil and water well.
Cedarwood essential oil can be used in your hair and skin care regimen too! Mixing the essential oil with a carrier oil and applying to your hair, scalp or skin. It may aid in the treatment of dandruff and/or an itchy scalp, along with shining and brightening the hair. It may also be used to help treat acne, eczema and psoriasis. By blending cedarwood oil with a natural unscented face wash, it acts as a facial toner for oil prone skin.
Great news for women! Cedarwood can help women manage the symptoms of their menstrual cycle. Comforting and easing cramps, mood swings and fatigue. Use by adding about 2 drops of cedarwood essential oil to a tablespoon of carrier oil, then applying to pelvic region/lower abdomen (wherever you are feeling pain), massaging in the mixture (the self massage alone feels great too!). You may also massage it into the soles of your feet for hormone and mood balancing.
People who suffer from chronic respiratory tract infections can help alleviate symptoms by simply putting a couple drops essential oil to a couple drops carrier oil into your hands, rubbing them together and inhaling the cedarwood essence. Also, applying a few drops with a carrier oil to your throat and chest may aid in the decrease of symptoms.
As well as many physical uses, cedarwood essential oil therapy has emotional healing properties as well. Keeping you rooted to the ground, cedarwood works well within the root chakra (1st chakra). Dealing with feelings of comfort and safety, the 1st chakra is your base and support for the rest of your body and mind. Balance within this chakra using cedarwood aromatherapy will relax and calm, while uplifting the spirit!
